Hollywood Studios Quick Service Dining: Best and Worst!

Hollywood Studios is one of my favorite parks for attractions and thrill rides. However, when it comes to quick service locations they are lacking.  Most of the Hollywood Studios quick service dining options are pretty basic and unimpressive.

Disclaimer – Disney counts Catalina Eddie’s, Fairfax Fare, and Rosie’s All-American Café as separate locations. They are all, however, together in Sunset Ranch Market. Since you can easily order from any of them as a group without splitting up, I am ranking them as one.

I also am not including Starbucks (The Trolley Car Cafe) because, while you can get a few snack items, I am only including ones you would typically order a meal. Although, I have definitely opted to grab a cupcake in here to hold me over until dinner.

Here is all of the Hollywood Studios quick service locations ranked from best to worst – in my opinion anyway!

  1. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
  2. Woody’s Lunchbox
  3. ABC Commissary
  4. Backlot Express
  5. Sunset Ranch Market
  6. Dockside Diner
  7. PizzeRizzo

1. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

Hollywood Studios Quick Service Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is the newest Hollywood Studios quick service location. Currently it is not part of the Disney Dining Plan, but that isn’t surprising for new restaurants.

Docking Bay has all of the major things I look for in a Disney dining location; atmosphere, variety, high food quality, and air conditioning! There is indoor and outdoor seating. Also, like most Disney restaurants, you can ask for an allergen-free menu.

We visited over opening weekend for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and were able to order quickly and find a table easily. Now, it is important to note this was during Hurrican Dorian so a lot of guests changed their plans to come a different weekend.

Location: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Meal Periods: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: No
Menu: Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo Menu
Price Range: The most expensive item for lunch and dinner is Braised Shaak Roast at $18.99. The other items range from $12.99-$16.99.
What to Order: Currently there are no stand outs for entrees, they are all delicious.

2. Woody’s Lunchbox

Hollywood Studios Quick Service

Woody’s Lunchbox is my vote for best Hollywood Studios quick service. The food is consistently delicious and adds a much needed variety outside of burgers. The concept of the restaurant is adorable and much like everything in Toy Story Land, it is filled with minor details that are simply magical.

When it comes to lunch and dinner, I enjoyed the BBQ Brisket Melt, but if meat isn’t your thing, the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich is also delicious. The totchos are also good, but I wouldn’t think of them as a meal, but more an appetizer to split between people since they are essentially loaded nachos. However instead of nachos it is tater tots.

Breakfast is also popular here since so many people rope drop Toy Story Land and save breakfast until after they ride Slinky Dog. I thought it was delicious, but the S’more French Toast Sandwich was very sweet for me, especially that early in the morning.

The biggest downfall of this place is seating. There isn’t much of it. Also, it is completely outside. Some tables do have umbrellas for shade from the sun, but not all of them. Finding a table can be difficult and finding one with shade can be almost impossible at times.

Location: Toy Story Land
Meal Periods: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: Yes
Menu: Woody’s Lunchbox Menu
Price Range: At breakfast, the most expensive item is the breakfast bowl at $8.49. Lunch and dinner the most expensive option is $12.99 for the BBQ Brisket Melt with the other items around $8.99-$9.99.
What to Order: The box tarts are incredible popular throughout the day. They are basically poptarts, but a bit more instagram worthy, and personally I find them to be tastier. They are good desserts/snacks/breakfast meals to grab and go.

3. ABC Commissary

Line of five check-out registers in front of an open kitchen area at ABC Commissary

ABC Commissary is usually our standard quick service to grab a bite. There is lots of seating indoors and the food is pretty solid. This past summer they started allowing reservations for dinner after 4pm so you get priority seating.

Currently, the dinner reservation system works similar to Be Our Guest breakfast. You order at the counter and receive a tracker so they can bring your food to you.

The concept for this theme is just that its the cafeteria at ABC. As far as staying true to the theme, it is pretty accurate. However, the theme itself is clearly very bland. The nice thing though is it provides air conditioned seating and ABC show reruns while you enjoy your meal.

The price point is the big downfall here. If you are on the dining plan, it is a great use of credits, especially for the Pot Roast or BBQ Rib Platter. However, as long as guests who are paying out of pocket are alright with the high price, it is a good quick service option.

Location: Commissary Lane
Meal Periods: Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: Yes
Menu: ABC Commissary Menu
Price Range: The most expensive item is the BBQ Rib Platter for $18.29. The rest of the entrees range from $9.99-$16.49.
What to Order: The Mediterranean Salad (with or without chicken) is a popular item on the menu. The Southwest BBQ Burger is also good, but can be very heavy on a hot park day.

4. Backlot Express

Hollywood Studios Quick Service

Backlot Express used to have chicken and waffles on the menu, but much to fan’s disappointment, it has been removed. The menu is mostly quick service staples like burgers, chicken fingers, and sandwiches.

There is plenty of seating, however, none of it is air conditioned. There is covered seating and completely outdoor seating.

Backlot Express is decorated with props and memorabilia from classic films. Besides Woody’s Lunchbox, it is probably the most “themed” Hollywood Studios quick service location. However, I’m not sure if that is saying much. It does definitely give the feel of a backlot on a film studio.

I enjoy the caprese sandwich. It is a simple meal, but very refreshing on a hot day. Also for the cost I think it is the best bang for your buck.

Location: Echo Lake
Meal Periods: Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: Yes
Menu: Backlot Express Menu
Price Range: The most expensive item is the Backlot Burger for $13.99. The rest of the items range from $8.99-$11.99.
What to Order: It isn’t known for anything, except that the chicken and waffles that no longer exist here.

5. Sunset Ranch Market

Sunset Ranch Market is actually made up of three dining locations, Catalina Eddie’s, Fairfax Fare, and Rosie’s All-American Café. While they are all separate menus, you can easily treat this as one dining location that has multiple ordering windows.

Catalina Eddie’s features pizza and salad, nothing super interesting. Fairfax Fare has “Latino specialties” for a bit of variety here. Rosie’s All-American Café has burgers, hot dogs, and the popular Fried Green Tomato Sandwich.

The great thing about this location is that it offer variety for groups. You can send people to any of the dining locations and still all eat together. There is a lot of seating, but it is all outdoors and only some areas are covered. It can be difficult to find shaded seating during popular times of the year.

Location: Sunset Boulevard
Meal Periods: Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: Yes
Menu: Catalina Eddie’s Menu ,Fairfax Fare Menu Rosie’s All-American Café Menu
Price Range: The most expensive item is the Backlot Burger for $13.99. The rest of the items range from $8.99-$11.99.
What to Order: The Fried-Green Tomato Sandwich at Rosie’s is the stand out item. Fairfax Fare also has a popular Mojo Pulled Pork Sandwich.

6. Dockside Diner

Hollywood Studios Quick Service

Dockside Diner is a quick service location which is incredibly hard to miss since it is a giant boat. The menu changes up often, but currently it is simply hot dogs, a pulled pork sandwich, and chili-cheese nachos.

Occasionally they will have seasonal milkshakes here, which are typically creative and tasty. However, if there isn’t a seasonal milkshake here, there is very little reason to eat here over any other dining location.

There are shaded picnic tables for seating. Overall, there isn’t much to say about Dockside Diner. Unless they have a new item on the menu that catches your eye, definitely head elsewhere.

Location: Echo Lake
Meal Periods: Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: No
Menu: Dockside Diner Menu
Price Range: Currently, the most expensive items are the Carolina All-Beef Foot-Long Hot Dog and Chili-Cheese All-Beef Foot-Long Hot Dog at $12.99.
What to Order: If there are seasonal milkshakes being featured, try that!

7. Pizzerizzo

A vibrant sign and fire escape adorn the brick exterior of PizzeRizzo at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Pizzerizzo serves pizza (surprise!) and there’s not much else to say. It is ranked the worst Hollywood Studios quick service dining option because of the food quality and the fact that it is infrequently open.

It used to be Pizza Planet, but was renovated to become a Muppets theme. The interior decorations only slight lean toward this theme, but overall it isn’t hit-you-in-the-face with the Muppets type of restaurant.

I have said before I am not a huge fan of the majority of pizza throughout Disney World. My standard for pizza is pretty high and for some reason Florida hasn’t seemed to figure out how to make proper pizza. However, if you really are just looking for anything to eat in a quiet location with air conditioning, this could work for your family

Be warned, this restaurant is a seasonal one and hours vary. Unlike other locations, it is closed during non-busy times of the year. Also, it closes before the rest of the park very frequently.

Location: Grand Avenue
Meal Periods: Lunch and Dinner
Mobile Order Available
: Yes
Menu: PizzeRizzo Menu
Price Range: The Meat Lover’s Pizza is $10.99, but the rest of the entrees are also around that price.
What to Order: There is no best or worst items on this menu, they are all sub-par.

Overall

I said at the beginning that there really were no great options for Hollywood Studios quick service. If I find myself in Hollywood Studios and need to eat a full meal, but all of the table service locations are closed, I will still go grab something at one of these locations. However, none of them are destinations or preplanned visits like you would find at the other parks. I wouldn’t rank any of them as must try food locations for Walt Disney World.
